Stories Of Faith Series: Sunday 8th November, 2015 – “Do You Believe I Can Do This?” – Rev. Peter Clarke

Bible Reading:  Matthew 9:27-30

“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

“Yes, Lord,” they replied.  Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”;  and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” Matthew 9:27-30 (NIV)

What kind of faith does God honour?

1. God honours a faith that believes when it does not see.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” Isaiah 26:3-4 (NIV)

2. God honours a faith that persists when nothing changes.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2 (NIV)

3. God honours a faith that works even when it does not make sense.

How do we develop this Faith?

a)  Believe God is who He said He is.

b)  Read and mediate on God’s Word.

c)  Remember God’s faithfulness in the past.

d)  Make a decision to obey God no matter what… even when it does not make sense.

Stories Of Faith Series: Sunday 1st November, 2015 – “The Touch Of Faith” – Pastor Brian Codrington

Bible Reading:  Matthew 9: 18-26

The faith exhibited in this account together with the approach taken provides a good model for us as we face the issues of our lives.

1. Define the problem.

“The mere formulation of a problem is far more often essential than its solution”.   Albert Einstein

The issues for Jairus and the Women were very apparent.

Question: What issue(s) am I facing right now?

Then recognising an issue we need to:

2. Search for a Solution

Question: where is God in the midst of the issue(s) I am facing now?

3. Make a decision

“For she kept saying to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I will get well.’”  Matt 9:21
“ ….You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord”   Jer. 29:13

Question: have I truly made the decision to trust Jesus in everything?

4. Get the result

Sounds great doesn’t it? But what is the result?

“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus”    Philippians 4:19

So as we come to Jesus He will give us the following results in our life:

* A deeper trust

“Don’t be afraid, just believe”  (Jesus)  Mark 5:36b

* A willingness to come ‘just as I am’

* A determination to get rid of the distractions

* A real taste of God’s love and presence

“daughter your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering”  (Jesus)   Mark 5:34b

* An absence of fear

“for you did not received a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of sonship, and by him we cry, Abba (Daddy), Father” Romans 8:15
